What format is the footage in? All our footage is in European standards. For the standard definition files this is 1024x576 pixels and 25 frames per second. The high definition (HD) files are 1920x1080 pixels and most are also 25 frames per second, except some of the time lapse videos (these may be 24 or 30 frames per second).
All of the Standard Definition footage is interlaced. The files are all available in QuickTime MotionJPEG-A/B. For the HD footage it is a little more complicated: All of the underwater footage is interlaced and therefor MotionJPEG-A/B. All (or nearly all) of the other HD footage is progressive scan and in the PhotoJPEG codec.
Can I download the footage immediately?
Well, almost. Unfortunately we have had to take measures to avoid abuse. We do this in two ways:
1. from now on we will have to approve orders before you can download it - usually this is done very quickly during business hours in Europe (CET)
2. we only put low resolution files on the server and replace them with the full resolution file from a separate server when a license is bought.
We apologise for this inconvenience, but we hope you understand that this is one of those cases where a few people with not so good intentions force us to do this...
Do you add footage on a regular basis? Yes. We add footage as it is taken. Click on "Newest Footage" to see the latest footage that we have posted.
Can I submit footage to sell? Right now the only footage that we sell is that shot by by a select few contributors. In the future we may consider this.
Do you offer refunds? Once your purchase is made we can not offer a refund. The reason for this policy is because we offer full access to our entire digital collection of photos and, as such, there is no way for our products to be returned. On a rare occasion we will make exceptions on a case by case basis.
Are there any restrictions on my use of the footage that I download? Yes. While NaturalHistoryFilm.com offers great freedoms and a wide ranges of uses for Royalty Free footage, we do not allow the redistribution of our photos, or allow the use of our photos within products that are mass distributed in any type of archive format. Also, broadcast on television or in cinemas (or similar venues) require written approval from the copyright holder or NaturalHistoryFilm.com before the first broadcast (additional fees may apply, although normally no additonal fees will be charged).
For Rights Managed footage, price of the license fee depends on the use. As a results, the permitted use is only that for which the license is purchased.
Is account sharing allowed? No, sharing an account is no different than distributing our materials to others. Individual accounts must be purchased by your friends and colleagues.
I bought a subscription, but it says I'm not activated, what do I do? On rare occasions our merchant processors may not send the information of your transaction to our system, so your account may not be automatically activated. Therefore, if you have made a purchase of our yearly subscription and you are not able to access photos NaturalHistoryFilm.com using your details, send a support request.
I need a file for use in a project for my client. How does this work?
For each client a separate license should be bought. To avoind misunderstandings, it may be wise to inform NaturalHistoryFilm.com when buying a file for a client or after you have bought a few products for several clients. Please note that re-use of one file for several clients without paying the approproate license fees is a breach of the License Agreement and is an offense. Apart from criminal prosecution, we will also (on behalf of the copyright holder) bill you a penlty of up to 5 times the standard fee for each license you should have bought.
